La Vieille Ferme is only a mile and a half from the beach at Brehec

8 mins to Paimpol, St Malo 90 mins, Roscoff 90 mins by road

La Vieille Ferme is a recently renovated 18th century farmhouse in a pretty hamlet very close to superb beaches and cliff walks. It is within 2ks of all main services at Plouezec and its main restaurant La Horaine is a specialist seafood restaurant, which offers a whole range of affordable menus plus a la carte. There is a well stocked Intermarche supermarket, 2 boulangeries/patisseries and other shops & banks and a busy market every Saturday morning often with locally caught fish plus marvellous vegetables grown in this fertile region.

The House

Old Farm (La Vieille Ferme) is probably the oldest farm building in the hamlet dating from around the 18th century. It is now a light and spacious gite with rural views and no passing traffic as it is not on a through route. Both the front and garden side of the farm are within its own grounds. The garden area has a gate onto the lane.

The ground floor

This has distinct kitchen/dining room areas and is open plan in style. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a microwave oven; gas oven and hob; fridge freezer; cafetiere; electric kettle etc. The washing machine is in the crèche opposite the kitchen.

The dining room area has a large oval table easily seating 8. French windows lead onto the terrace - all on the same level. There is an open fire, which is easy to light especially good for off-season visitors.

From the dining area one passes through to the large lounge which could also act as a 4th bedroom.
In the lounge there is a cd radio/tape player and video -no live TV - plus comfortable seating and a bed settee. The lounge has 3 windows and is south and west facing and therefore is very sunn
y.

Upstairs

Upstairs are three bedrooms: - 1 double with ensuite shower with wc &basin; 1 smaller double; and one twin. There is second shower room with wc and basin.

All double bedded rooms have radios and bedside cupboards, bedside lamps, wardrobes /hanging rails.
The large corridor has a cupboard for the ironing board/iron and cleaner etc.
A cot is available.

Outside

The house is south facing and in full sun from dawn to dusk and French windows leads out onto the garden terrace with views over the lawns and the forest canopy.

A forest trail starts from the end of the garden and leads to Brehec Beach - a 35 min stroll through centuries old deciduous forest-truly magnificent for bird and wildlife observation and wonderfully cool on hot summer days.

Opposite the main house is the crèche where there is bike storage and the washing machine plus the garden furniture (if not already outside!). One can sit outside on each side of the house and as the house is tall there is usually some comforting shadow to escape the heat if so desired.
The nearest house is a large manoir type of stone building and interesting roof levels and not at all intrusive with only a small attic window in the far wing! The other side of the house has the crèche, which is only used for storage and the forest lane and out of sight cottages beyond.

Brehec Beach and village is within 3 ks walk or 5 mins by car and has splendid sandy beaches, which are ideal for young children as the shore is gently sloping.

There is a sailing school and hire facilities for most sports and there are snacks bars and a small restaurant. Nearby and only 10/15 mins drive away are different beaches and resorts - some very chic (e.g. St.Quay and Binic) and others in a very natural setting (e.g.Napoleon Plage and Palus Plage, Plouha.

Within 8 mins drive is the fascinating medieval fishing harbour of Paimpol with a good selection of restaurants and cafes around the port.

The small cobbled streets are full of small specialist shops inviting you to browse and ponder! Close to Paimpol are Tossen Plage and the magnificent Abbaye de Beauport. Paimpol keeps open all year round unlike some of the smaller resorts.

A few minutes drive from Paimpol are the Iles de Brehat - a fantastic day out on traffic free islands - which have been described as having a Mediterranean style climate with the flowers and shrubs to match!!

Bikes can be hired but really walking the islands is easy and the few shops provide a great choice for a picnic on one of the sandy beaches. There are a few inexpensive restaurants and cafes as well.

Things to do: surfing; most watersports; sea kayak centre Paimpol; spectacular cliff walks; pony & horse riding; golf; fishing; boat excursions from Pointe de l'Arcouest nr Paimpol to Iles de Brehat; historic buildings of Paimpols Latin Quarter; maritime museum; steam train from Paimpol down sea estuary of Trieux to enchanting Pontrieux;
Open air concerts with Breton music & dancing & guest acts from abroad;plus all the other spectacular sites such as La Roche Jagu chateau;the Pink Granite Coast at Ploumanach; Amoripark adventure park; etc etc
